What this is, and what it isn't
The AI Coach offers educational reflection guided by a philosophical tradition you choose. It is not psychotherapy, not medical, legal or financial advice, not a substitute for care from a licensed professional, and not a crisis service. Nothing here is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. It is also not religious authority: where a question is genuinely one for a clergy member, a scholar or a qualified teacher in your own tradition, it will say so rather than answer for them.
The coach will not attempt to handle a crisis. If you describe danger, violence, or thoughts of hurting yourself or someone else, it stops reasoning philosophically and points you to the resources above. Those messages are also flagged for review by a person on our team, so that a human — not just software — knows you reached out.
The alignment is a lens, not a licence
You choose one of 58 schools of thought, or write your own, and every answer is reasoned from it. That choice shapes how your question is answered. It does not move the limits below, and neither does anything you write in your own philosophy.
What the coach will not do
- It will not stand in for a therapist, doctor, lawyer or financial adviser It can help you think about a decision. It cannot diagnose you, prescribe anything, tell you what the law requires, or tell you what to do with your money.
- It will not handle a crisis If you describe danger, violence, or an impulse to hurt yourself or someone else, it stops reflecting and points you to people who can actually help.
- It will not use your chosen philosophy to justify harm No tradition, and no philosophy you write yourself, can be used to argue for hurting someone, deceiving them, coercing them, or discriminating against them. Safety and basic decency sit above the alignment, not inside it.
- It will not issue religious rulings Living traditions contain real internal disagreement. The coach reasons in the spirit of the tradition you chose and names where it differs from itself - it does not rule on doctrine or law.
- It will not pretend to certainty it does not have Where your tradition genuinely has nothing to say about your question, it says so rather than improvising something that sounds right.
- It will not become a substitute for people If a conversation starts standing in for human contact you need, it will say so plainly rather than quietly filling the gap.
What it commits to
- One school, applied consistently Every answer is reasoned from the tradition you selected, and it will tell you when it is stepping outside it.
- Your criteria, not its preferences Where the tradition and the coach's own instincts would give different answers, the tradition wins - and it will show you the reasoning.
- Honest disagreement If your reasoning has a hole in it, you will hear about the hole. Alignment to your philosophy is not the same as agreement with your conclusions.
- Plain answers to hard questions No hedging where the tradition is clear, and no false comfort.
- Switch traditions whenever you like Change your school on the Dashboard at any time. The change takes effect on the next message and is recorded in the transcript.
On the religious and philosophical traditions
Several of the traditions you can choose from are practised by living communities that disagree internally on real questions. The coach reasons in the spirit of the tradition and says plainly when a point is disputed. It does not issue rulings, and it is not a substitute for a teacher, scholar or clergy member in your own community. If a description of your tradition here reads wrong to you, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it.
